Recap and looking forward.

Recap and looking forward.

I am convinced, the older I get, the faster times goes.  It’s a bit difficult to believe a year has passed since I last posted a blog.   It was a busy year.   The back surgery from 2014 continues to be a huge success.   I was able to do some traveling last year.   I got to visit both my sons and both my brothers, attended several weddings, went to an international convention in Atlanta and saw tons ...

Back at it…..

Back at it…..

It been 7 weeks being back to work after my back surgery and recovery period.

It was interesting to observe the return of clients during the month of January.  I was concerned that having been not able to work for 12 weeks that I would loose clients.  I know I wouldn’t want to do without a monthly massage for 3 months.   I had one client who said he had gone to another massage therapist in town and the experience caused ...

2015 A new marker

2015 A new marker

I am not one for making New Year’s Resolutions.  I look at the beginning of a new year as simply a ‘marker’ to gauge process on current goals and dreams and reflect on the completed ones.

2014 was a year of extreme physical pain and looking back I see it was the grace of God that got me through.   Having  a 5 1/2 hour back surgery in October and a difficult 12 week recovery period was a blessing and a ...

Almost there

Almost there

26 more days of recovery and then I will be able to get back to work!   So looking forward to that.

Today in physical therapy we added in some upper body work.  I have always been a firm believer that the entire body is integrated and thoroughly connected head to toe.  When we added the upper body work today I felt my body ‘sing’ to be able to address not only the lower back and legs as it related to ...

Continued rehabiliation and recovery

Continued rehabiliation and recovery

I am now eight weeks out from surgery.   Today I began actual physical therapy in addition to my one to two hour of walking each day.

Again, I am quite fortunate in that the physical therapist I am seeing had the same surgery a year and a half ago.   He was able to answer all the questions I had in regard to his recovery and how active he is now even playing hockey again.  I have hope!

During the months prior to my surgery ...

Following doctor’s orders

Following doctor’s orders

James Ulibarri, MD with the Sheridan Orthopedic Associates was the surgeon who did the 5 1/2 hour surgery on my back in October.  Dr. Ulibarri did a fantastic job and I would highly recommend him.

When I awoke in the recovery room I immediately noticed the severe pain I had been experiencing in the low back and down the right leg was gone.  What a fantastic relief !  I was in the hospital for 3 days and in a transition wing ...

one of life’s curve balls

one of life’s curve balls

Upon careful recollection I have probably been dealing with low back pain for over 20 years.  I was able to control the symptoms with ice, massage, stretching, chiropractic, acupuncture, Reiki, craniosacral, integrative  structure, restorative pilates and meditation.

Healing was a huge part of my decision to move back to Wyoming.  I knew it would entail healing spiritually, mentally and emotionally.  The emotionally segment is still underway.  It then became apparent the God had determined that the healing cycle was to include ...

Achilles (Calcaneal) Tendon

Achilles (Calcaneal) Tendon

The common name for the Calcaneal Tendon is best known as Achilles Tendon.   This is a major tendon for the legs and one of the longer tendons in your body.  The tendon stretches from the heel to the calf muscles.  Interestingly for women, wearing high heels increases the stress on the tendon.   Non-athletes, amateur athletes or professional athletes can have an Achilles tendon injury.

You have probably all heard the Greek myth:  The baby Achilles was foretold that he ...

CranioSacral 3

CranioSacral 3

Have you ever looked at a skull or pictures of a skull and noticed the jagged edges between the bones?  Those sutures with the jagged edges actually allow the bones to flex with the bones around it.  In fact, the bones in the head move 6 to 12 times a minute.  Sometimes those sutures get ‘stuck’ to each other and don’t flex as well as they should.   CranioSacral therapy gently releases the adhesions allowing the bones to move freely.  The movement of ...

CranioSacral 2

CranioSacral 2

The Cranium is the portion of the skull that houses the brain.  The cranium is not one solid bone.  The cranium consists of a single frontal bone (forehead), occipital (back of the head), sphenoid (butterfly shaped bone behind the eyes),  ethmoid (medial wall of the eye socket) and paired temporal bones (around the ears, back of the temple) and  parietal bones (above the temporal bones back to the coronal suture and the sagittal suture).   These bones articulate 6 – 12 times ...
